Adrian Smith was born in Hackney, East London on 27 February 1957 in Hackney. He is one of the three guitarists for Iron Maiden and also sings backing vocals on some of their tracks.
Adrian Smith Adrian became friends with Dave Murray at school and formed his first band Urchin as lead singer and lead guitarist. Murray left Urchin to join Iron Maiden, the new band of another local musician, Steve Harris. Smith followed in 1980 for the Killers album, replacing Dennis Stratton. The duel lead guitars of Smith and Murry helped create Iron Maiden's Trademark sound. Some good examples of this can be heard on "2 Minutes to Midnight", "Alexander the Great" and "Rime of the Ancient Mariner".
Adrian Smith departed Iron Maiden in 1990 and was replaced by Janick Gers, it is speculated that he left due to being unhappy with the direction the band was taking after Steve Harris decided to take the band back to a more .
Adrian released his first solo project, Silver and Gold, in 1989 with the band ASAP, shortly after this he departed from Iron Maiden. Adrian smith was replaced by Janick Gers in 1990 when recordings for the No Prayer for the Dying album were about to start. It is widely believed that Adrian left due to his unhappiness with the direction the band was taking. The album "No Prayer for the Dying" featured one last song co-penned by Adrian with Bruce Dickinson, "Hooks in You".
Adrian plays guitar on a few tracks and co-wrote a few songs on Michael Kiske's solo album, Instant Clarity after joining forcing with Kiske in 1996. Smith then went on to form his alternative rock-influenced band Psycho Motel..
Adrian Smith rejoined Iron Maiden in 1999 and they have released three further studio albums since then.
